You are fighting a big thug. This guy is both shifty and menacing, so he's got one up on the regular thugs.

Hit messages:

Critical hit message:
Your opponent attacks ... Your opponent has a critical hit! He hits for X damage.

Miss messages:
Your opponent attacks ... and misses.

Your opponent attacks ... He menaces you with his knife. "That's not a knife," you say, lying through your teeth. The look of confusion on his face is priceless.

Your opponent attacks ... He throws his knife at you. It misses, and he has to go pick it up.

Your opponent attacks ... The thug jabs at you with his knife, but you disarm him with one well-timed kick. You wait patiently while he scrambles after his weapon.

Fumble messages:
Your opponent attacks ... Your foe fumbles! He takes X damage.

Victory! You beat up your foe and win the combat!
You gain 6-14 chips.
You gain 7 experience.
