You can see that the back of this cave has already been explored by other people, and you're not feeling particularly confident that they would have overlooked anything as obvious as some glowing Nostronomium, but then you're surprised to see a lump of it just sitting on the ground next to a large, muddy pool. You pick up the Nostronomium and take it with you.
