Whatever you do with this thing, do not point this at your significant other in the middle of a heated discussion and use it to try to change the channel. It's only going to have the opposite effect.

You take the batteries out of the remote control, so that it doesn't go off while you're adventuring and change the channels of innocent standerby. Yeah, you're heroically considerate, too.

You locate <player> and deliver the lost remote control. They seem exceptionally happy to see it.
You feel really good about giving back that lost item. The smile on <player>'s face just made your day. It gives you a nice, warm feeling. You get an effect, Toasty Heart. (Added for 30 minutes.)
The receiver receives the following message:
<sender> just returned an item that they think used to belong to you.
Included item: long-lost remote control (quantity 1)
Trying to return the item to yourself:
You start to return this lost item to yourself, but then you realize: this is not your beautiful house, this is not your beautiful lost item. By definition, if it's in your possession and it's lost, then it can't belong to you. Thus you can't return it to yourself, or it wouldn't be lost. Ergo, lost items must be returned to other people, who, by definition, are the only ones for whom this lost item might become found. Comprende?
- If resting while having a lost remote control in your inventory:
You stop by your hideout to rest for a minute. Remembering the remote control you've been carrying around, you dig it out and watch some television. It's far more satisfying than watching television without a remote. FAR more.
