After trying on an assortment of other targets it looks like whenever the result is thunder it will add sonic damage equal to the physical damage of your attack and the bonus sonic is subject to any sonic resistance the foe has. I kinda forgot the shoggoth also has 50% resistance to physical. I'll see if I can get it to trigger against a physically immune target to check if that has anything odd to go with it.  --[[User:Valmo|Valmo]] 23:02, 31 December 2011 (PST)

:Used versus clockwork mishmash and while it isn't physically immune it was still helpful. The bonus sonic damage is determined before resistances are applied. The crucial thing now is if the thunder or lightning result is random or predetermined. I've only observed lightning against things that were easy kills to start. --Valmo 23:02, 31 December 2011 (PST)

Used versus clockwork mishmash and while it isn't physically immune it was still helpful. The bonus sonic damage is determined before resistances are applied. The crucial thing now is if the thunder or lightning result is random or predetermined. I've only observed lightning against things that were easy kills to start. All uses in the dreamer's clock areas and the castle have resulted in thunder. --Valmo 18:31, 2 January 2012 (PST)
Maybe the trigger *is* that you would have one-shotted with thunder, so you get a different message (and maybe a different hidden effect - XP? less time spent? just the message? better item drops? ...?)
