I am testing this with the UFO, not uniform, but suspect it's the same.

Lasers - if you don't currently have a companion, you get a "We come in peace" opening (not against scaling foes; it's available but does nothing against villains and other bosses?) - this will end the fight quickly (dunno if it's -3 minutes or always cut to 1 minute) and "convert" the foe into a "gray shirt" companion for a while.<br>
If you have a companion (currently works with any companion, but I expect it's only supposed to work with a gray shirt), you get a "Shoot to kill" opening, which deals some fire damage (in a parting shot) and removes the companion.

Grey shirt does some blocking and +xp.
