Two Paths Diverged in a Prehistoric Wood<br>
Two Paths Diverged in a Prehistoric Wood The path you're following through the park takes you into a pleasant grassy clearing, complete with gently rippling stream and, oddly, a little wooden sign that reads "Please stay off the grass." You pause to admire the grass you're not supposed to walk on, and notice a rustling from across the clearing. Out steps a creature you thought had been lost to the mists of time, but there it is ... a dodo! You realize that in a park full of pre-dinosaurs it shouldn't be surprising to see something as recently extinct as a dodo, but somehow a thing made extinct by humans and brought back by humans seems more poignant. All too soon the dodo ducks back into the grass. <br>
*Stay the path, it's the right thing to do<br>
*Damn the sign and follow that bird! <br>
*Split the difference and wade down the stream<br>

<br clear="all">
Results
Combat!<br>

You are fighting a sphinx
Like a good little hero, you stick to the prescribed path. Shortly down the road you encounter a sphinx. You're not sure if this is a gyno sphinx or an andro sphinx, mostly because you can't remember your Greek roots. You think the dromedary has one hump and the bactrian has ... wait, no, that's camels. What a riddle this creature has turned out to be. What's less puzzling are its intentions--it launches itself at you immediately.

Victory! You beat up your foe and win the combat!

You gain 190 experience. <br clear="all">

(190 base experience before modifiers.)

----
Sign, Sign, Everywhere a Sign<br>

You decide you don't care what the sign says--it was probably put up by a villain anyway. Without giving it any thought you stride across the dewy grass and creep into the woods, trying to catch up with the dodo. Thankfully the bird lives up to its reputation and seems spectacularly unconcerned when you stumble upon it a minute later. In fact, it ignores you completely as it finds its way through the trees to a small brick building. There's a feeding trough there, and the dodo begins pecking avidly at the shiny metal of the trough, completely ignoring the birdseed and fruit inside.

While the dodo fails to find a midnight snack, you wander around the outside of the building and realize it's a small museum of sorts, dedicated to the dodo. You find a phamphlet, written in rhyming verse, describing the nature of the dodo. It's poignant stuff, so you decide to keep the pamphlet.

You got an item: verse of the dodo
----

A Fishy Medal <br>

YYou slip off your boots, roll up your pants, and step into the creek. The cool water is pleasantly refreshing after all of the hard crime-fighting work you've gone through. As you wander down the stream, you notice the moonlight glinting off of shapes of silvery fish that are swimming along with you. Something about their shape is a little odd, or a little ancient, you're not sure. As you watch them swim around, a different type of glint catches your eye. You reach into the water and pull up a silver disk, or medal. You decide to take it with you.

You got an item: seal o' canth
So You Want To Be A Hero.
Welcome to the Beginner's Guide to Twilight Heroes.<br>
Warning: This guide may contain spoilers.<br>
*(Here is the Official TH Manual, we will be covering some things that are in there.)

Choosing a class
Here is the Classes page & a Class Comparison Table <br>to see what the different classes have to offer.

If you find that you would rather be another class then, <br>the Transmogrifier page will show you how to change classes.

Where to start
Twilight Heroes can be a bit confusing or overwhelming when you're first starting.<br>
This next little section will show you were to start if you want to head into combat a little more prepared.

You're a Dirty Dirty Hero
To Quote Ryme "dumpster diving--while not glamorous--can be surprisingly rewarding."<br>
You'll want to Investigate the trash bin out back.<br>
You are looking for<br>
*denim jacket
*denim pants<br>
and the adventure below.

Cleaning up Crime
Head to Pilant's Hardware and Soft Wear<br>
& Pick up,
*1 flashlight
*1 kneepads<br>
&
*1 bicycle.

You will want to equip them, and head out to Your neighborhood.<br>
And remember to have fun.

What you need to know
Here is some basic info that you should know about.

Turns & Time
There are a few things that effect how much time your turns cost.<br>
Caffeine will give you more time, with more time you get more turns.<br>
You want items that remove time from turns, if they add time to turns its a bad thing.<br>
*77 Habits of Highly Effective Heroes will make your turns cheaper by 30 seconds.<br>
**I listed 2 others that you will want to know about here Equipment.

Caffeine is my Friend
You get 12 points of caffeine each day, and they will be replenished after rollover.<br>
Each source of caffeine consumes these points differently, since you are a beginner <br>you'll want to pick up 12 Gingerette or Gingerelle (they are the same thing just different names) from the Black Market.<br>

*Here is the Caffeine page, it will show you what some of the other sources of caffeine are.

Rollover
Every night at roughly 11:10 Eastern time, the game will rollover.<br>
When you log back in after rollover, you'll have more turns and your caffeine level will be reset.

To Rest or not to Rest
*Resting in your Hideout will replenish roughly 4*level of your hp and 4*level of your pp.
*Resting will not remove bad effects.
**(Find the bad effect in the wiki to see if it can be removed & if so, how.)
*Resting will cost you 5 minutes to 2.5 minutes depending on your level.
*High-level characters tend not to rest much -- each turn is very valuable. For example, they might not be getting hit, or they might use attacks that replenish HP/PP, or use skills or equipment to heal, or buy HP/PP at hospitals. For new characters, resting is very convenient -- it is hard to find enough chips for training, so expensive healing and equipment is not usually an option.
*If you have to rest between every combat, you'll probably earn more XP and chips per minute by fighting in an easier location!

Losing your Chips
Chips are your lifeblood... & Devil Dice will take your soul...
*Gambling at the Seedy Casinos can destroy you faster than you know.<br>
**(I have heard of many high levels losing hundreds of thousands in chips in just a few minutes.)
*Try not to spend chips on items and equipment, for the first 7 or so levels.
**(you will need the chips for your training and Caffeine.)
*There are 2 places that you can earn decent chips adventuring.<br>
**First is Golden Wooden Nickel Casino.<br>
***(best to be a level 5 or higher, if you're taking a lot of damage then you may want to grind in a place that isn't so brutal.)
**Second is the Cube Theater.
***(it unlocks at level 9 but you will take a lot of damage it would be best if you waited till you were level 14, unless you have a healing skill then you may be able to do it a few levels sooner.)

Equipment
Here are the Equipment Summary Tables, it will help<br>
you figure out what gear you want to look for.
<br>
*When you want to know an item's info in the game, simply click its picture.
*Pay attention to the item's info before buying it. level requirement, what slot it takes, & ect.<br>
**(you may find that you have something that is better in your inventory.)
*Full-body suits will take up your shirt slot & your pants slot.
*You can't equip 2 of the same accessories, (unless it says otherwise in its description)

*Get the Xentrium breastplate ASAP. It will make your turns cost less time.(it will give you more turns)
*Do not use the Magic truck vehicle. If you use it, it will make your turns cost more time.(it will make you have less turns)
**(if you message Cristiona ID# 24 in the game, she will give you a fair price for your Magic truck vehicle.)

Rares & IotMs
These items can be identified by the fact that they are the only items in the game that have Color.

*There are 2 kinds of Rares, Rare & Semi-rare.
**Rares also knows as "Ultra Rares" or "URs" are hard to find and you may spend months looking for them.
***(All tho some people get lucky and find a rare in days.)
***The Boomstick is the only Rare Weapon in the game, all other rares are Talismans.
**Semi-rares are Talismans that are about as good as the talisman that you get for completing the Don't Cry for Me, Zion-tina quest.
**The corrupt amulet & special wooden cup are the only 2 Semi-rares in the game currently.
<br>
*IotMs stands for "item of the month".
**They can be obtained by donating 5$ or more to the game for Silver stars, or buying Silver stars from other players.
**They Require 5 to 10 Silver stars to buy them from the The Wok of Stars
**They are retired after the month is over.
***Some players may be selling an IotM after it has been retired.
Silver Stars
*Some areas can only be unlocked by starting a quest or adventuring while using an item.
**The wiki will have info on how to unlock them.

Finding the Rand
You live the sad life of a Hero! No friends, always working in one way or another.<br>
Why not go out and find yourself a friend. Here's Rand...

*First Rand will be in Neighboring and neighborly neighborhood.
*Then you can find him in the Twilight Hospital in Downtown Twilight.
*After that he will be at the Twilight Police Department when there is a quest to be started or completed.

Quests the Other White Meat
Above all else remember that the Journal is your other friend.<br>
It will give you hits if you get lost or stuck.
*Quests unlock at most levels from 1-9.
*Everyone gets stuck on the Maze password!
**First hint: Ryme is obsessed with Spoonerisms.
**Second hint: Do what is says, not say what is says.
*Some adventures are limited occurring once or a few times.
*Merit Badges are only for show.
*There are still Merit Badges than haven't been found.
**If you find one that isn't in the Merit Badge page, then write down the info on how you think you found it so others may have a clue.
*You rest for a while to re-energize.
*You spend some time reading a pocket paperback and feel recharged.
*You stop in at a convenience store for a light snack and a bottle of water. You feel refreshed.
* On average, resting will give you roughly 4*Level HP and 4*Level PP, capping at roughly 40 HP and PP at 10th level.
* Resting for a turn requires 5 minutes for a 1st level hero, but decreases by 30 seconds at every 4th level (4th, 8th, 12th, 16th, and 20th) down to a minimum of 2:30 per rest. Resting is unaffected by Xentrium breastplate and the like.
* Resting time can be decreased through several means. More data is needed. (?)
Let's get this ball rolling!

matt the sort of superpowered vigilante (#9561) has honorable right now.
i also confiscated the cargo at the docks a couple times before accepting the black knight's challenge in the guild but it didn't change until then, so it might have been a combination of them, i know cheating the black knight lost honorable as matt the vigilante. I'm currently listed as Altruist. Don't know why (yet) --Lazyfire 22:40, 18 April 2008 (MST)

Pseudoname-(Character ID #2444) I have Pragmatic, I chose the less heroic versions of the choices listed,I tried cheating against the pitch black knight, then I accepted bribes at the docks. I think I cheated about 3 or 4 times then switched to the docks. it changed after about the 3rd time i accepted a bribe.
Somebody said that cheating the knight 23 times did nothing so it might have just been the docks, or maybe those affected more or something
:* It could be a combination of things. IE: Chastity [#14101] fought the knight with honor 28 times. Is a fresh character, so not tainted with any past encounters. Did not have a chance from Balanced. Does not necessarily mean anything, but ya never know. Will continue to test until I hit 50. if I hit 50 and no change, I will see about finding other, similar non-combats, and see if maybe it's accumulative from -more than one source-. --Valera

It may be a number and gets deducted/increased by x each time you do something not heroic or something heroic. When the number gets deducted/increased to another number, you get another reputation. Each choice may deduct/increase the number differently. Please also mention the amount of encounters of the choices when your reputation changed. It appears that choices you've made in the past also count towards your reputation, best if we made a clean, fresh account like Val.--chuwenhsuan
Running away might effect your rep you might even be called a chicken, just a thought.--Reaper 01:52, 19 April 2008 (MST)

In case anyone hasn't noticed, the button for all Rep adventures has the words "What do you do?", or something along those lines, or, at least, the three I've found (which counts the Knight and the Docks) have that. Okay, I was spading a bit. It seems that taking the bribe once and cheating the black knight once will give you "Pragmatic", and confiscating the cargo once and taking up the challenge once will get you back to "Balanced". This isn't about past choices but Ryme said "There will soon be ways in which the reputations get you different results, for sure." so it sounds like reputation will do something eventually.

also the rave choice adventure seems to effect reputation differently than the docks one because i had honorable on a multi then chose to accept the loss at the rave and after a few turns of doing that my reputation changed to virtuous, then i took bribes a few times to see how it would change my reputation and got altruistic, before tried to change my reputation i was farming in the cube so it might have affected it too, i was alternating between right and center at the cube. so this isn't very reliable, but it seems like either the rave or the cube changes reputation differently than the docks
I just cheated on the knight 8 times, although I probably had adventured there previously earlier in my play, but not much. I also went to the docks and accepted the bribe five times. I had never adventured there previously. As for the rave, I don't remember what choices I had made there. I'm a relatively new player also and haven't ventured far from quest areas. * That Man's Father can move you left on the grid (toward cheater) if you "Rough Him Up"
* That Man's Father can move you right on the grid (toward lawabider) if you "Accept the Loss"
* The Two Paths in the Prehistoric Garden can move you right on the grid (toward lawabider) if you stay on the path

Selflessness: Self-Promoter <--> Communitarian (shown vertically)
* Is your character selfish and looking out for number one, or is your character generously contributing most of your energy to others?
* Being self-interested (the bottom row of the grid) gives you access to the League of Self Promoters.
* Being selfless (the top row of the grid) gives you access to the Robotics Club.
* Intermission can move you up the grid (towards communitarian) if you "Exit Stage Right"
* Intermission can move you down the grid (towards self-promoter) if you "Exit Stage Left"
* Pick Yer Poison can move you up the grid (towards communitarian) with the trendy Gingerette Black
* Pick Yer Poison can move you down the grid (towards self-promoter) with the ruggedly individual Krakatoa Punch
* Horns of Dilemma can move you up the grid (towards communitarian) if you solve gridlock
* Horns of Dilemma can move you down the grid (towards self-promoter) if you avenge your uncle
* I've seen one claim of an alignment change 'overnight' ... I think it would be neat if the self-interest (vertical axis) alignment changed in response to non-adventure actions: giving away lots of PPs by buffing other heroes vs using PPs on yourself, or giving away items vs receiving free items.
**In case it wasn't clear: (dict) pages are not pages for definitions written by/for the blandsauce wiki community. Instead, (dict) is used precisely where Ryme chooses to place words in his official Twilight Heroes Dictionary. For those dictionary entries, a pop-up window appears with a green "Twilight Dictionary" banner, and this wiki copies that text verbatim. That's why Reputation (dict) refers the wiki-user to Reputation, where we clutter the page up with strategic details about reputation. ==Definition from the Twilight Dictionary==
"Over time your choices as a hero will begin to give you a reputation with the population of Twilight. Be careful what you choose, because while some people are bound to appreciate your choices, others are guaranteed to disapprove. Some may say you're the ideal hero, while others might label you a menace. Reputations can change, though, as you make other choices over time. The public eye has a short memory, and what you do today always overshadows what you did a month ago."

How to Change Your Reputation
Reputation is based on a combination of factors, including your response to various non-combat "choice" adventures.

In order to change your reputation, you'll need to travel around the city. Visiting the same choice adventure two or more times in a row has little or no effect on your reputation (unless you select a different choice).

* Honorable or dishonorable choices you make during That Man's Father and Glove Slap, Baby and Shipping Clerk and Two Paths Diverged in a Prehistoric Wood can move you left or right on the grid.
* Solitary or community choices you make during Pick Yer Poison and A Dilemma of the Horns and Intermission can move you up or down on the grid.

Effects of Reputation
* Being selfless (top row of the grid) allows you to visit the Robotics Club (where you can buy the robotics kit).
* Being self-interested (bottom row of grid) allows you to visit the League of Self Promoters (where you can hire the Publicist).

You find 90-110 chips.
A backpack usually also contains 1 or 2 of the following items, although it is possible to get no items or 3 items. Each item is equally probable. I just used 50 backpacks in a row. Since none were outside the 90-110 chip range, I removed the question marks. Also, you can get a backpack with no items (just chips), one item, two different items, or two of the same item. The final total was Medkit x26, Soles x22, and Firewater x21, so there seems to be a 40-50% chance of each item.--Voort 13:07, 9 January 2008 (MST)
Just adding my stats--in 32 backpacks I got 16 medkits, 12 firewaters, 19 soles, and 3256 chips. --Usi 23:27, 4 July 2008 (MST)

Backpacks can also drop 3 items. In 23 backpacks, I received:
* 00 times with 0 items
* 07 times with 1 item
* 14 times with 2 items
* 02 times with 3 items
From 25 backpacks, there was a total of: 2532 chips, 19 advanced medkits, 21 cups of firewater, 10 Dr. Stoll's Medical Soles. Tycho Everett 07:20, 17 July 2008 (MST)
Current Totals
(Data from above... LeaChim-4 Voort-50 Usi-32 Tycho-25)

Hypothesis
Flip three coins. Each time a coin comes up heads, put an item into the backpack. (Choose items randomly among medkit, firewater, and soles.) This would lead to the following profile:
* 12.5% chance of 0 items
* 37.5% chance of 1 item
* 37.5% chance of 2 items
* 12.5% chance of 3 items
This is well within the variability of the current data (171 items found in 111 backpacks, usually 1-2 items, rare cases of 0 items and 3 items). Tycho Everett 07:20, 17 July 2008 (MST)

Wiki Structural Improvements
One problem with the wiki currently is that original information is scattered through multiple levels. For example, the location page X lists noncombat choice encounter Y one of whose choices is Z. If Z returns a variable number of XP or chips or whatever, some wiki-editors place that information on page Z, others only put it on page Y, and others only put it on page X.

Similarly, most monsters have their HP range and drops listed on the base location page (e.g. Triassic Park). Different information collected by other wiki editors is listed on the individual monster's page.

Possible ideas:

1. Fold choice encounter outcomes into the encounter page, and make those individual choice pages into redirects back to the main encounter page.
<pre>
A Page with a Choice:
What do you want to do?

---
Choice 1 Result

---
Choice 2 Result

---
Choice 3 Result
</pre>

2. Fold each sidekick effect outcome back into its sidekick page, and make the effect outcome into a redirect back to the sidekick.

3. Transclude all the information from an individual monster page back to its appropriate location(s). (Well, transclude everything people might want to see right off-the-bat: HP, XP, items, but not combat flavor text.) The goal is herd all spading efforts to a single location.

In order to change your reputation, you'll need to travel around the city. Visiting the same choice adventure two or more times in a row has little or no effect on your reputation (unless you select a different choice).

Okay, I was spading a bit. It seems that taking the bribe once and cheating the black knight once will give you "Pragmatic", and confiscating the cargo once and taking up the challenge once will get you back to "Balanced". just a little question: has anyone gotten a rare drop since this has been implemented? It is said that your reputation won't affect anything. Also, we should use a brand new multi to spade things out because the choices you've done before reputation was implanted also affects you reputation.--chuwenhsuan

I'm still balanced and have never been anything else. Gnollus Gneash 02:37 15 July 2008 (EDT)
Combining the spade info with the in-game area descriptions, Reputation might be a combination of two scales:

Honor: Cheater <--> Lawabider (shown horizontally)
* The Black Knight's Challenge can move you left on the grid (toward cheater) if you "Cheat Like the Dickens"
* The Black Knight's Challenge can move you right on the grid (toward lawabider) if you "Accept the Challenge"
* The Shipping Clerk can move you left on the grid (toward cheater) if you "Accept the Bribe"
* The Shipping Clerk can move you right on the grid (toward lawabider) if you "Confiscate the Cargo"
* That Man's Father can move you left on the grid (toward cheater) if you "Rough Him Up"
* That Man's Father can move you right on the grid (toward lawabider) if you "Accept the Loss"

* Pick Yer Poison might move you up the grid (towards communitarian) with the trendy Gingerette Black
* Pick Yer Poison might move you down the grid (towards self-promoter) with the ruggedly individual Krakatoa Punch
* Horns of Dilemma might move you up the grid (towards communitarian) if you solve gridlock
* Horns of Dilemma might move you down the grid (towards self-promoter) if you avenge your uncle
* (new Prehistoric Garden adventure might move you up or down the grid??)
Similarly, Chat (dict) should look different than Chat. --Tycho Everett 23:19, 9 July 2008 (MST)

A Dilemma of the Horns<br>
A screech of tires and a series of loud bangs pulls you out of the back alleys and to a major intersection, where you see that a spill on the road has apparently caused a multi-car accident. Traffic is beginning to back up, and horns are blaring as unhappy drivers try to navigate the accident scene. None of the drivers appear to be seriously hurt, though, as they have all gotten out of there cars and are milling around, making the traffic issues that much worse. There are sirens in the distance, so police help ought to be on the way in a few minutes, but some traffic direction now could prevent a giant traffic jam later.

Then your jaw drops as you realize that you know one of the men in the crowd. His name is Richard Horn, and this is the man who killed your uncle and stole his car. Wait, did I say "killed"? I meant "shoved." And it wasn't so much "stole his car" as Richard "snatched 50 chips from out of his hand in a casino and ran away." Anyway, even though your uncle is alive and in good health, you really hate that Richard Horn guy, and you think someone should teach him a lesson. But he's walking swiftly away from the accident. <br>
*Avenge your uncle's murderer. Er, robber.<br>
*Try to prevent major gridlock<br>
*Try to do both at once<br>
what do you do?
<br clear="all">
Results
With Great Power Comes Great Revenge <br>

You figure the traffic jam is inevitable whatever you do, but avenging your uncle is something you can only do once, so you dash off after Richard Horn. Something must have alerted him, because he starts to speed up and then breaks into a full run as you get close. But a mere mortal is no match for your heroic speed, and you catch him easily.

Of course he doesn't recognize you in costume, so you have to take several minutes just to explain why you've chased him down. And naturally, he's terrified the entire time, because he doesn't understand why someone in your strange outfit is after him. Eventually he catches on, though.

"Chips? You want chips? Here!" He reaches into his pocket and grabs a handful. "This should make up for whatever family members feel cheated. Just leave me alone!" You let him run off and pocket the chips, figuring the debt is balanced. You'll give the chips to your uncle next time you see him, which at this pace might be in a decade or two.

.<br clear="all">
----
With Great Horespower Comes Great Responsibility<br>

You survey the situation and decide that your personal vengeance isn't nearly as important as serving the public trust by sorting out the traffic jam. You let Richard Horn skulk off into the distance while you focus on getting hundreds of commuters from point A to point B in a reasonable time frame. It takes a few minutes to get things cleared up properly (picking up cars, setting them down on the curb, etc.) but when you're done there's a spare hubcap that doesn't belong to any cars you can identify, so you get to take it home with you. Sweet!

You got an item: dented hubcap<br clear="all">
----
An Electron You Are Not<br>

You practically dive after Richard Horn, while beginning to shout increasingly loud instructions to the people standing in the intersection. Unfortunately, your noise makes Richard turn around, and he seems to realize that you're tailing him. Meanwhile, nobody in the accident site can hear you over the sound of the car alarms and horns that are still blasting into the air.

Pretty soon Richard is gone, and traffic has backed up for more than a block in every direction, meaning your efforts are wasted. You should really learn it's just not possible to take care of two major issues at once.<br clear="all">
