Spading the effect
Seems like the effect is straight bonus to damage equaling 0.2*Strength. This also fits the standard of one level = one additional damage since the average gain per level is 5 str (see also gold star).
My data was gathered on a level 5 elemental with 25 base str. To avoid the effect of the weapon I used the same weapon for all the data, a shattered protest sign with power=3. The data was gathered in Cannonball Tavern against the 3 foes residing there. The damage from that weapon against all 3 foes in that area was always in a range of X±1. Here is the X for different value of strength:
strength | average damage |
---|---|
25 | 8 |
33 | 9 |
34 | 10 |
38 | 10 |
39 | 11 |
48 | 12 |
53 | 13 |
This data fits one of three theories: round (2.8+0.2*Str), floor (3.2+0.2*Str), ceiling (2.4+0.2*Str).
As I don't know the base damage I can't differentiate between them, but they are all pretty clear on 0.2*Str. --Muhandes 19:45, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
I am definitely seeing less than 0.2*str. Not *much* testing, but:
- I am seeing difference of 100 damage (spread 211-232 vs. 310-325, both only over 4 datapoints) from a 577 increase in strength, with 138 offense, against big thug with 2point sundowner at L103
- attempt against other opponents were yielding closer to 0.19*str (1102 damage with 5830 str: 0.189022, 619 damage with 3230 str: 0.19164, difference 483 damage over 2600 str: 0.185769)
maybe the "larger by 25%" mentioned on the page was actually implemented by increasing 5 to 5.25? --XKiv (talk) 21:12, 29 March 2013 (PDT)
