This is a high tech, one-of-a-kind energy weapon. The designers decided not to make it work like a normal weapon. Instead, you stick your hand in the back, kind of like a puppet. The handle and trigger are all inside, which, you guess, makes it harder to accidentally fire. More importantly, though, it makes you look totally cool.
