You come upon a dusty and well-used animal trail, and decide to follow it for a while. After just a couple minutes of jogging you encounter a man trudging down the path, away from you. Figures. Not only don't these scientists have the sense to stay off the paths the animals travel, but they're going the wrong way, too.
It turns out the man's name is Burke, and he's actually a straggler. Just over the crest of the hill you meet the rest of the group: Gorman, Hicks, and Jordan.
As you round them all up and lead them back to the portal, they relay that they had been deep inside cave X, but had to turn back because a geyser nearly washed them out.
You take a moment to note that you should stay out of cave X, and just go ahead and mark it as empty on your map.
