I'm not so sure about that. In this current retcon, I don't think that I encountered any Archons before I got fed up and just started using the horns that I got. They worked just fine. --Scirocco 10:11, 11 February 2011 (PST)
When I tried to use this item without encountering an Archon I got this message: You blow a few blasts on the horn. It looks and sounds like the battle horns the Zion's Tears creatures are using, but nothing happens. Maybe none of them are are listening right now and you should try a bit later? --Acidcat1 09:54, 12 February 2011 (PST)

Needs to check when exactly you get this:
