- Most obviously, this is a reference to baseball's World Series in general, and the 2008 World Series specifically. The match up for the 2008 Series was decided the day before the Frank's Ballpark event, and is indeed between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Tampa Bay Rays.
- The line about "your Scottish uncle" is a reference to an old SNL skit starring Mike Myers where he played a crotchety old Scottish store clerk who would often shout "If it's not Scottish, it's CRAP!"
