One lump was given to each player by Ryme as a gift for Christmas, 2007. The message said:

Well, it's probably Christmas somewhere by now. So, uh, 'Hah Bumbug' or something like that. You've probably earned this. Seriously, though, I hope you're having a happy holidays! -Ryme Included item: lump of coal (quantity 1)

The use results vary by class:

• Naturalist: Using your powerful muscles, you squeeze the carbon tighter and tighter until it slowly heats and compresses. When you're done, you've got something sparkly. Neat! You got an item: diamond

• Gadgeteer: You chuck the carbon-based material into a little mechanical doo-dad that you've whipped up, mostly to see what will happen. When you check back a little later, you find that the material has restructured itself. graphite chalk

• Psion: You delve deep into the molecular structure of the carbon, telekinetically twisting, turning, and tweaking the molecules until something precise and ordered forms. You got an item: fullerene

• Elemental: You take one look at the carbon and decide there's only one thing that it's good for. To burn, baby, burn! hot charcoal
