foxy sombrero mask
Plural: foxy sombrero masks
This is the memorable sombrero and mask that the Flaming Fox wore on his vigilant fight against the Governadór, his power-hungry arch nemesis.

The hat is memorable in part because of its astounding yellow color, a trademark of the Fox. Against all odds the small mask attached to the sombrero kept the Fox's secret identity safe during long years of struggle, even though the Fox possessed a ridiculously thick accent that should have made him instantly recognizable out of costume. In this more gritty era of crimefighting he would have been outed swifly, but back in the halcyon days that kind of analysis simply wasn't done.

References

  • Halcyon is a word rarely used in place of golden, after the greek myth of Alcyone.
  • The small mask and etching his initials on his foes are references to Zorro. A sombrero was used in Zorro's early appearances, though then Zorro used a full face mask. In The Legend of Zorro, he is seen wearing a half mask and hat, as the item image depicts.
  • The thick accent and the yellow suit reference the movie Zorro, The Gay Blade where a gay brother wearing gaily colorful costumes takes the place of Zorro. See for example this image.
  • Governator is a reference both to the nickname given to Arnold Schwarzenegger by media, and "gobernadór", Spanish for the "governor", common in the Zorro movies.
