This is a piece of soft fabric, possibly a very small towel, where one corner appears to have been dipped into something you're fairly sure was once strong coffee. You've heard of a coffee-towel caffeine delivery system somewhere, so maybe this is an implementation of that. You could probably pop the corner in your mouth, chew on it a bit, and extract some caffeine. It's harmless, you figure.
