A Skeptic Sandal

You find yourself again at the site of the Powell fool--um, foul pool--filling the giant hall. Like the previous times you stumbled onto this spot, you still can't get through and don't see a way around. Thinking back to what the Bind Mender said, you contemplatively pull out the bland sack, all that remains from the black sand you found heap in these dolls. Deep in these halls.
You twist and turn the pouch in your hands, looking for some sort of solution. Then, in a moment of utter clumsiness, the sack slips from your fingers and falls into the septic lake in front of you. Of course you try to grab it, but it's Lou Tate. Um, too late. But a strange and unexpected thing happens: the pool in front of you begins to shimmer and fizzle, and then slowly just fades away, leaving nothing but dry dusty halls and a lingering stench in the air. Was it all just some trick of the mind? It certainly appears that way.
You walk forward into the unexplored area. Not twenty steps down the hall, where the sceptic scandal had been moments before, you discover a pair of sandals--skeptic sandals--sitting on the now bare ground. You pick them up and take them with you.
