henchstalker

You are fighting a henchstalker.

When a man appears from the shadows whispering "Grandmother sends her regards," there's no way you're not hoping for cookies.

But he brought a knife instead. It's not even a cookie cutter knife or, you know, a knife-shaped cookie.

Great, now you're hungry and getting attacked by a mysterious figure who wants you to stop your investigation, even if that requires killing you.
Your opponent attacks ...

Hit messages:

  • For generations the stalkers have perfected the arts of subtlety and... oh, he's just going to hit you with a mailbox? Okay, I guess that's what happens.
  • The henchmen stabs you really fast. Not, like "montage to a period-appropriate piece of classic pop" fast, but fast enough he's just a blur.
  • He carefully selects a knife covered in deadly poison and catches you with a tricky throw. Deadly poison! Your only weakness! (acid) damage

He hits you for X damage.

Critical hit message:

Your opponent has a critical hit! He hits you for X damage.

Miss messages:

  • For generations the stalkers have perfected the arts of subtlety, but subtlety went out of style generations ago.
  • The henchmen stabs at you really fast, but you're even faster. They'll have to get up early and pile on a few more reallys to catch you with that.
  • He carefully selects a knife covered in deadly poison, but little does he know you spent the last several years in Australia.

Fumble messages:

Your foe fumbles! He takes X damage.

Victory! You beat up your foe and win the combat!

You gain 200 experience.

Notes

  • After the stab attack, the foe becomes Stalking, with the following message:
Your opponent slips into the shadows.
  • Before the next attack, the foe loses Stalking with the following message:
He emerges from the shadows to attack.
  • Does not seem to trigger if the stab attack happens twice in a row.
