Some foes have special attacks. For a special attack a foe needs to first hit you.
Special attacks include:

arachnoworm, catoblepas, quantum bee | You find yourself slowed by the assault from the <foe>. You acquire an effect: Listless. (Added for 30 minutes.) |
deranged mutant, onyx shadow, shade from Ib | The foul touch of the <foe> seems to wither your very soul. You lose X XP. |
femticore, howler bat, frusion grasshopper | The <foe>'s attack leaves you mentally shaken. You acquire an effect: Dazed. (Added for 30 minutes.) |
flock of harpies, vampire leech, sub-atom ant | Contact with the <foe> causes your limbs to numb and weaken. You acquire an effect: Weakened. (Added for 30 minutes.) |
graboid | You find yourself slowed by the assault from the <foe>. You acquire an effect: Sluggish. (Added for 30 minutes.) |
nightgaunt | The <foe>'s attack leaves you mentally shaken. You acquire an effect: distracted. (Added for 30 minutes.) |
nioth korghai | Contact with the <foe> causes your limbs to numb and weaken. You acquire an effect: drained. (Added for 30 minutes.) |
