I just used 50 backpacks in a row. Since none were outside the 90-110 chip range, I removed the question marks. Backpacks can also drop 3 items. In 23 backpacks, I received:
- 00 times with 0 items
- 07 times with 1 item
- 14 times with 2 items
- 02 times with 3 items
From 25 backpacks, there was a total of: 2532 chips, 19 advanced medkits, 21 cups of firewater, 10 Dr. Stoll's Medical Soles. Tycho Everett 07:20, 17 July 2008 (MST)

Hypothesis
Flip three coins. Each time a coin comes up heads, put an item into the backpack. (Choose items randomly among medkit, firewater, and soles.) This would lead to the following profile:
- 12.5% chance of 0 items
- 37.5% chance of 1 item
- 37.5% chance of 2 items
- 12.5% chance of 3 items
This is well within the variability of the current data (171 items found in 111 backpacks, usually 1-2 items, rare cases of 0 items and 3 items). Tycho Everett 07:20, 17 July 2008 (MST)
