Message for stunning reverb: Part of your opponent's blow comes into contact with your gong, causing a stunning GONGGGGG! It both explains why they're called that and causes 7 damage to your opponent.
It's sonic damage, seems to be around 10 here (ancient crypts, getting hit for ~150-300. Foe is stunned for one round. --XKiv 06:20, 2 June 2012 (PDT)
Against Justin Illusion:
Your opponent attacks ... He hits you for 12 (psychic) damage.
Part of your opponent's blow comes into contact with your gong, causing a stunning GONGGGGG! It both explains why they're called that and causes 1 damage to your opponent.
In retribution for the attack your defenses trigger a psychic echo that fires back to your opponent for 1 damage.
The one in bold is a modified strike back message, while the italic one is the extra effect of the gong, and the foe became stunned in the next round. Patojonas 06:37, 3 June 2012 (PDT)
against clavis clepsydra: You're caught off guard, and your opponent acts first. Your opponent attacks ... Your opponent has a critical hit! She hits for 21 damage.
Part of your opponent's blow comes into contact with your sonic defenses, causing your equipment to reverberate with a resounding CLONGGGGG! It causes 2 damage to your opponent.
In retribution for the attack your defenses trigger a psychic echo that fires back to your opponent for 4 damage.
Justin is immune to psychic, clavis isn't. Based on this first number retribution seems to be round(0.20*foe damage).
Also, this retribution seems to be independent from the type of damage suffered.
Curiously, the strike back message this time looks like the normal one and I think the foe wasn't stunned in the following turn. Patojonas 04:37, 7 June 2012 (PDT)
Just now, against big charlie, he hit me for 78 damage, psychic retribution of 16 (~20%), modified strike back message and he was stunned in the following turn. Patojonas 04:50, 7 June 2012 (PDT)
My current observation is thus:
If the foe's attack doesn't do enough damage (no idea how much is enough, but being in ancient crypts is enough for a level 50 character, being in rogue ranch isn't (Even with -75% dodge and -125% initiative)), you just get normal sonic stikeback. Damage might accumulate over several attacks (that is, I have seen GONGGGGG on a second or third hit in rogue ranch (but sometimes even first, iirc)) If the foe's attack is a critical, you just get normal sonic strikeback. If you already got a GONGGGGG, you get normal sonic strikeback. If none of the above apply (i.e. it's the first time this combat that you were hit enough, and it isn't a critical), you get GONGGGGG and the foe is stunned (in addition to sonic strikeback damage).
Patojonas' psychic strikeback has to be from something else, I never noticed any of that. Not even Big Charlie or Justin. (and the sonic strikeback is 10%, as mentioned in the item description) --XKiv 03:10, 8 June 2012 (PDT)
