Codes may be obtained by using Vlad's Decryptonomicon software on an electronic computer or a Positronic computer to decrypt a mangled data plate. The chances of getting the various codes are currently unknown, but are believed to be 20% each.
Another way to obtain codes is to transform a pre-existing code by decrypting it with Vlad's Decryptonomicon software. Unlike the mangled data plate technique, this method is deterministic: it transforms each of the codes into another specific code. The transformation is cyclic: financial spreadsheet code decrypts into signal processing code; signal processing code decrypts into statistical analysis code; statistical analysis code decrypts into city map code; city map code decrypts into physiology scan code; and physiology scan code decrypts into financial spreadsheet code. Thus with some patience any code may be converted into any other.
