- Mordecai could be Mordecai Brown, best known for his years playing for the Chicago Cubs. Seattle Sam could be a reference to the Seattle Art Museum, but it's probably just for the alliteration. Phil is obviously the groundhog. Detroit Billy could be a reference to Billy Sims who played for the Detroit Lions.
