The name of each monster is randomly generated, and has no effect on its stats, which scale according to player level. Each name consists of five parts: a rank, a prefix, a suffix, a monster type, and a place of origin. The possibilities are listed in the table below, making for a possible total of 7290 lesser fiends and 7290 greater fiends, or perhaps 3645 of each, it's not known yet.

Rank Pre Suf Type from Origin
lesser ex dous beast Abaddon
greater fan ible critter Hades
fou ly fiend perdition
freak posterous gargoyle some nightmare
ghast real goblin the abyss
incred tastic imp the blue blazes
mons tesque monster the bottomless pit
pre treme ogre the inferno
stupen trous varmint the netherworld
Mount Vernon, Kentucky

Notes

Along with a randomly-generated name, there is a randomly-generated 50% resistance to one type of elemental damage, or no resistance. There does not yet appear to be a randomly-generated elemental weakness.

It is unknown how the name affects the rate of the Abaddon charm drop, which no longer drops based on fiend name.
