- Cyberpunk is a subgenre of science fiction, in which William Gibson was a pioneer. Neuromancer is one of his most well-known novels.
- "Welcome to My Mind", "Teknojihad", "Shock on the Wire", and "Down on the Ground" are titles of songs performed by the nineties techno group Psykosonik, whose lyrics often contained cyberpunk themes.
- The rest of the combat messages, as well as the enemy description, reference the Billy Idol album Cyberpunk, especially the songs "Neuromancer" and "Mother Dawn".
- The enemy's image is an example of cyberpunk fashion.
