In a recessed nook, in an inconvenient cranny, in a distant tunnel off a minor branch of a lesser subsection of the cave system, you stumble across a little outcropping of some sort of crystalline substance. You break it off and take it outside to examine what you found.
You got an item: uncut diamond 
You got an item: uncut emerald
You got an item: uncut ruby
You got an item: uncut sapphire
