Although it's billed as a "flight helmet," you don't seem to be lifting off. Ah, well, at least this helmet is linked into the Centry early warning system.
In practice, that means whenever the little red light starts flashing, you're about to get stepped on by a giant monster. It should help you get the jump on them, especially if you wouldn't notice them anyway.
