Plural: walls of a classroom
Back before web classes and even overhead projectors, teachers literally wrote by rubbing rocks together. Unfortunately, pulling "chalk" (one of these rocks, sort of like a stylus if you still use those) across the "chalkboard" (the other rock, which was mounted on the wall so the students could see it) creating the most terrible sound known to mankind.
