3.14-gauge pipes
Plural: sets of 3.14-gauge pipes
If you ever need the play the "Sonata for Kate Monday" or tune in the key of i, these are the pipes for you! In practice, they only seem to attract animals and the occasional confused child. Since you're neither an animal control specialist nor a childcare professional, it's probably best to leave it to your understudy.

Who knows? After a while, they might actually get good at the pipes.

Gives your sidekick understudy a new skill.

How Obtained

The Wok of Stars

When Used

First time:
Your understudy picks up the pipe and tries it out. And tries it out. And tries it out.

Eventually, you snap out of your boredom surrounded by rats. That's... good?

Your sidekick learns a role: Pied Piper.

Subsequent times:
Your understudy already has a pipe like this. Giving them another would just be tacky. They're both pied, but it's like stripes and plaid.

During the Cat and Mick-y Mouse Game quest:
Your kidnapped sidekick isn't available for training right now. The whole being kidnapped thing, you know.

Notes

  • When bought: The shopkeeper plays a few test notes on the pipes, then hands them over for your 10 silver stars before the shop is overrun.

References

  • The first three significant digits of pi (π) are 3.14. "Gauge" is a measure of the diameter (d) of certain pipes (specifically cannon or shotgun barrels). Thus, the name of the item can be translated as pi-d pipes, which refers to the Pied Piper of Hamelin. The description and use message also refer to the Pied Piper.
  • Kate Monday, mentioned in the description, was a character on Mathnet.
  • i, in mathematics, is the symbol for the imaginary unit, or the square root of -1.
