One of the regulars, probably the biggest and meanest of the drunken brawlers in the Cannonball, starts trying to pick a fight with a guy in a flannel shirt who's sitting next to you. Surprisingly, the guy in flannel appears to be one of the few customers in the bar who isn't looking for a fight. Or maybe he's just intimidated by the big guy, you're not sure. Still, after the third time the larger man tries to start something and the guy in flannel does his best to avoid a conflict, you've had enough. "Aw, come on," you growl. "Why don't you leave the poor guy alone?"

The big guy looks at you with a giant smile, like you just made his day. You notice that he puts one hand into his jacket pocket as he steps up to your seat, and you begin to get up and brace yourself for a fight.

Imminent combat is interrupted, though, when two sets of hands grab the big guy and stop his advance. You realize those hands belong to two of the local police officers and sit back down before you draw their attention. One of the cops says, "Come on, Phil. You know Big J told you to stay out of trouble. A little brawling is okay, but you've been making too much of a ruckus. Why don't you go home for the night?" The other cop is busy patting Phil down, and pulls a very large pair of brass knuckles out of his right jacket pocket. "Aww, jeez, Phil! What are these, stainless steel? What're you trying to do, murder someone?" he says. He slaps the steel knuckles down on the bar next to you and continues to pat down the guy, unearthing a few other implements of destruction.

You can tell the big guy is torn, but after a moment of clenching his jaw he nods and agrees to leave with the two cops. The second cop pauses for a second and points right at you. "We've got our eye on you, too, buddy. This is a nice, quiet neighborhood. We don't need anybody stirring up trouble." Then he turns and walks off, leaving the steel knuckles behind. Once you're sure the coast is clear you deftly pocket the weapon and slip out of the bar.
