The pants turn an eerie electric yellow, the color of some sugary kids' drink, and your surroundings glow as if under blacklight. You realize this must be the precise color of sheep that androids dream about.
- The electric yellow of the dreampants makes you feel more energetic. You gain XX PP. Having passed that acid test and provided you with some cool aid, they revert to their normal state.
Your dreampants shift until they're a nice, soothing purple. Or maybe it's a reddish blue. You're not quite sure.
- The soothing purple of the dreampants makes you feel better. Almost like royalty. You gain XX HP.
The pants start to go purple-ish but then settle on a deep blue. Something in the 430 nm range. It's a particularly smart shade, you think. No, not stylish smart--more like superintelligent.
- Some of the smarts from the brainy blue pants wear off on you. How do you like that, you smarty pants, you? You gain XX XP.
The dreampants shimmer and settle on a deep forest green. You're not quite sure how you know it's definitely forest green as opposed to the nearby "green pepper" or "green hornet", but you do. Maybe all these colors are giving you a more discerning eye?

Seems to be two "effects" - precombat which is the color change, and post-combat which is a bonus of some type. ---- Malk

When red, the pants gave me +10 hot damage.
From the text I assume the green give +item drops and the yellow will give +chips, but I will let someone more spadey confirm that.

Alright. Here we go!
Purple -> 2*level HP at the end of combat (caps at 30)
Yellow -> 1*level PP at the end of combat (caps at 15)
Blue -> 1*level XP at the end of combat (caps at 10)
Green -> hypothesized to be +items.
Orange -> +initiative (racecar=speed)
Red -> +10 fire damage throughout combat
Don't think I've missed any colors besides green and orange being unspaded.

- Black. It may be +init (which would be nearly impossible to spade). Orange might be +chips. Cristiona

"The description of this item may be a reference to the Jonathan Coulton song "Mr. Fancy Pants"" I'm pretty sure it's a reference to "Josef and the Amazing Technocolor Dream Coat", based on the Old Testament story of Josef, who was sold into slavery. "Fancy pants" is used much more broadly than just a song. Cristiona

At level 48, I'm getting +10 fire damage as well. I don't think it scales.
Also, the blue message references the hyperintelligent shade of blue from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Some Data
Spent a few turns in the Delta:
163 nonOrange / 138 init wins = 85% init win
42 Orange / 35 init wins = 83% init win
35 Green / 24 enerbun = 69% drop
Enerbun has a base drop rate of 50%
If orange is initiative, I'm not seeing a big difference. Then again, the sample size is small and initiative is apparently high to begin with. But I'd say that green is definitely +item. I'll get 100 turns of green in to ballpark the figure...
And some additional info:

22 Orange
17 Green
16 Purple
14 Red
16 Yellow
13 Blue
