Hit messages:

The knight slashes your arm with his sword, leaving you glad it's still attached.
The knight slice and dices you. The slices hurt, but it's actually the dice that deal the damage.
The knight stands there, refusing to let you pass, until you make a break for it and he catches you with a gauntlet.

Miss messages:

The knight slashes your arm with his sword, but it was just a flesh wound.
The knight tries to slice and dice you, even make Julienne fries, but is wielding completely the wrong sort of weapon for it.
The knight stands there, refusing to let you pass, so you content yourself with beating him up.

Deafeating this foe with a Bedraggled Squire sidekick active OR a horse / Red Hex / pegasus / armored pegasus / Night Mare / frog's court horse / sleepy draft horse / nameless horse equipped while having 4150 XP or more at the end of the fight initiates the Riding in the Lists Quest.
