Exploring the halls in the back of the house, you walk past a man who clearly isn't a casino employee. He's not in uniform, he's exceptionally greasy even for someone in a seedy casino, and a bulge under his jacket looks suspiciously like a weapon. Performing the normal "suspicious figure in a narrow walkway" drill you give him space and then turn and follow him through a series of twists and turns. Eventually he disappears into a room shielded by a large, heavy metal door. Naturally, it's locked. Not again! you think, but then notice that this time instead of a swipe card you need a traditional metal key to get in. | Exploring the halls in the back of the house, you walk past a man who clearly isn't a casino employee. Return to Quests.
1. Visiting the Twilight Police Department after reaching level 5 will initiate this quest with the following text:
"You ready for something a little more serious?" Rand asks.
"Sure, what's going on?"
"We've gotten a couple of anonymous tips that something's going on at the Golden Wooden Nickel casino. Nothing particularly solid, but it sounds like the mafia may have some operations there. Money laundering, something like that. Probably something in the back of the house, where it's discreet. We don't have enough to go on, but if you could sneak back there you might be able to find something."
You nod and say you'll see what you can do.
2. You will then find the following message in your Journal:
Rand has asked you to check out the seedy casinos. He thinks the mafia may be using the back of the house to launder money. First you've got to find the back of the house.
3. Patrolling at the Golden Wooden Nickel Casino will eventually trigger the correct adventure with the following text:
Poking around in some casino hallways, you come across a large door that, based on the signs next to it, appears to lead into the private back portion of the house. Unfortunately, the door is securely locked. You could bust your way in, but you're sure that would set off all kinds of alarms, and you really don't want that. Looks like you're going to need to find a way to break in quietly.
4. This leads to the following message in your Journal:
Rand has asked you to check out the seedy casinos. He thinks the mafia may be using the back of the house to launder money. You've found the back of the house, but now you need a swipe card so you can break in.
5. Continuing to patrol at the Casino, you will see the following message after defeating VIP guests:
You fish around in the guest's pockets for a swipe card or something which might get you into the back of the house, but he doesn't seem to be carrying anything useful.
6. Until eventually...
You fish around in the guest's pockets. Ah-ha! A swipe card! You try to confiscate it, but the VIP guest struggles with you, insisting that it belongs to him. You finally rip the card from his fingers, but it's pretty messed up. It's not going to work in a door reader, but you might get some useful info from it if you ran it through a computer decryption program.
You got an item: ripped swipe card
7. Decrypting the swipe card with Vlad's Decryptonomicon software for 45 minutes on an electronic computer, or 30 minutes with a positronic computer, gives the following message in your Journal:
Rand has asked you to check out the seedy casinos. He thinks the mafia may be using the back of the house to launder money. You've found the back of the house, but it doesn't look like you're going to get a swipe card intact. Looks like you're going to need a computer to analyze the card data and make your own fake ID. You've got a little info, but you're going to need a lot more.
8. After decrypting four of them...
Your watch beeps, alerting you that your computer has extracted as much as it can from the swipe card. All right! Your computer says you've got enough data that it's cracked the code. It spits out a fake swipe card for you.
You got an item: fake swipe card
9. The following message will appear in your Journal:
You've got the swipe card. You know where the back door of the casino is. What are you waiting for?
10. Now you can access a new area: the Back of the House.
NOTE: You must exit to the Golden Wooden Nickel Casino Grounds to see this area.
11. After a while adventuring there...
12. After defeating a blotto sotto capo:
You fish around in the sotto capo's pockets and find something else that might be useful--a key!
You got an item: capo key
This unlocks a new area: the Mafia Storeroom.
13. Go to the Storeroom and fight the boss: Counsel Harry.
14. After this, the Journal will read:
You've broken into the mafia store room, beaten the boss, and called in the police to confiscate the dirty, dirty money. Looks like that's a wrap. Might as well fill Rand in on the details.
15. Visit the police department and read all the long text you'll see there. Click on the continue link. The Journal will then read:
Well, you've shut down a mafia money-laundering operation. That's good! You kind of made a mess of the casino where the mafia was used. That's bad. The police think you did something pretty heroic. That's good! But the owner of the casino, Michael Ace, is furious with you, and you may have made an enemy for life. (That's bad.)
Mission Complete!
The quest reward is the two double half larges that you receive from defeating Counsel Harry.
Notes
It is possible for steps 11 and 12 to be switched; that is, you may defeat a sotto capo and find a key in his pockets before you find the door.
