Giant novelty scissors have been used to cut ribbons at malls, bridges, aqueducts, and pyramids since time immemorial. This practice has survived the ages of superheroes with only a single change: reinforcing the scissors so they can handle superhuman strength. Unfortunately, they also get stuck all the time now, so you need to drop an anvil on them or something just to get them closed.
