Retcon (manual)
Retcon
Retcon, short for "retroactive continuity" is an old comic book gimmick where the writer occasionally changes a character's past to suit the current story line. For the purposes of Twilight Heroes, retcon is our code word for some sort of narrative option that will let you start over and replay the game--generally with varying restrictions and rewards, and often with an increasing arsenal of skills or items to make each replay interesting.
Retcon is not ready yet, but it has always been the goal of Twilight Heroes, and we expect it to dramatically change the way many people play the game (if they feel like it -- retcon is completely optional). More details will go here once we get closer to having retcon launch. The short of it is as follows:
- There will assuredly be more challenges and valuable rewards as part of the process.
- With each time through the game, characters will be able to permanently keep a skill that they can use the next time through (assuming they don't pick a restriction which temporarily keeps them from accessing permed skills.)
- There will be competitive leaderboards for a number of new things, including the speed with which players can run through the game and several lifetime statistics.
- There are likely to be voluntary options to restrict what you eat, what items you can access, what skills you can use, or how your sidekick works. Any of these options is likely to present you with varying rewards after the run is over.
- You won't ever permanently lose any items, though you may opt to temporarily reduce your access to them in exchange for the rewards. (There may be a few exceptions, such as quest-related items that need to be cleaned up.)
- Before retcon goes live, there will be plenty of warning. Very likely a full 30 days and a counter on the home page. Possibly a personal phone call from Ryme, though I wouldn't count on it.
