lost sock
Plural: lost socks
People have always joked about the land of lost socks, but this little piece of cloth has actually been there. Where do you think the land of lost socks is, anyway? I mean, is it adjacent to the land of lost shoes and the land of lost pants, or do those lost lands mix it up so that the lost socks are next to the lost gloves, and the lost scarves mingle with the lost pants?

How Obtained
Using a Pouch of Many Lost Things or its derivatives.
This lost sock happens to be the exact twin of another sock you've been carrying around for years, even though it's been flying solo for most of that time. With the two of them back together you can finally make the paired sock puppets that you've always been meaning to. You decorate the socks, put them on your hands, and get ready to demonstrate a Punch and Judy show for the bad guys. You get an effect, Sockin' it to 'Em. (Added for 60 minutes.)
Using multiple: Same as single use
You find <player> and hand over the lost sock. <player> thanks you profusely. You buff <player> with Sockin' it to 'Em.
You feel really good about giving back that lost item. The smile on <player>'s face just made your day. It gives you a nice, warm feeling. You get an effect, Toasty Heart. (Added for 30 minutes.)
- Trying to return the item to yourself:
- You start to return this lost item to yourself, but then you realize: this is not your beautiful house, this is not your beautiful lost item. By definition, if it's in your possession and it's lost, then it can't belong to you. Thus you can't return it to yourself, or it wouldn't be lost. Ergo, lost items must be returned to other people, who, by definition, are the only ones for whom this lost item might become found. Comprende?
Effect on Receiver:
<sender> has buffed you with Sockin' it to 'Em. They return your lost sock. You get an effect, Sockin' it to 'Em. (Added for 60 minutes.) You're pleased someone would return your lost belongings instead of selling it on eBay. Your whole heart feels full and warm: ventricles, atria, cockles, and all. (Added for 15 minutes.) |
Gives effect: Toasty Heart
References
- Ventricles and atria are chambers of the heart. Cockles, as used in the phrase 'warm the cockles of one's heart', also refer to the ventricles (Latin: cochleae cordis).
- The line "this is not your beautiful house, this is not your beautiful lost item" refers to the Talking Heads' song Once in a Lifetime, which includes the lines: "And you may tell yourself/This is not my beautiful house!/And you may tell yourself/This is not my beautiful wife!".
