First drop seems to be one of Municipal Targeting Network, social net, or public eye. Second drop is either a conditional (fewer than 4 blue lawn darts used?) firewall fragment or (another one of the above?). EOL drink can drop 3 times in one battle. So it seems like the only item which hasn't dropped in the 1st two slots yet is the V.I.L.L.A.I.N. case, although it may just not have dropped yet. --Satan 13:30, 17 October 2012 (CDT)

Here's what I got today on my alts league:
2 public eyes, 1 villain case and 4 eol drinks. Each of my alts used 1 dart against him, which accounts for the 4 eols. Guess the firewall can be replaced by one of the first drops. Patojonas 04:36, 20 October 2012 (PDT)

How to Kill
Use a stick-on tattoo (to maximize damage, really big cut in the fight duration) equip a dongle or an office trebuchet, polydactyl gloves and bishop of wreckage (to weaken it as much as possible, impossible to beat in 1 fight if you don't, try to get at least 20 points of weaken from your equipment) and use Shock Grenade in the first 25-30 turns to super weaken it. if you don't have shock grenade maxed, it can't be done in one turn as far as experience serves me.
If you can, get a few Flash-restore capsules or drowsing rods ready just in case and use a potion of the indoors to minimize elemental damage, but you aren't likely to need if you have 20 points of weaken equipped. Use a sidekick like the jujitsu one to block attacks, was useful later to block the special attack damage later in the fight. Liao and box pill will double your maxHP.
Lastly, use blue lawn darts to significantly weaken it's defenses and autoadventure script to attack for you, it has around 8000 HP. Patojonas 04:36, 20 October 2012 (PDT)

27 October Power UP
The sucker just got significantly harder. Not only does blocking no longer works on the stage 5 and 6 special attacks, but it gets much stronger each turn that goes. Just checked with my gadgeteer alt, took me longer to reduce its attack power with shock grenade, and even though I had 23 points of weakening equipped (trebuchet, polidactyl, bishop and fire orb) VIL was still increasing a little bit, I suppose it now grows stronger by 25 points each turn. While before a gadgeteer could shock it 25-30 times and then hit till it died, I now recommend shocking it for at least 40 rounds, equip as much weakening as you can and every 10-15 turns throw in a couple shock grenades to be sure you won't be surprised when reaching stage 5 Patojonas 04:46, 27 October 2012 (PDT)

Ranged vs Melee
The line about ranged being better is kind of pointless, especially if the data for that really came from comparing a Torch to a Furnace. The Furance is insanely overpowered, and has been recognized as such from about a week after the clock zones went in. When you're level 70+, all those extra attacks quickly outstrip strength's boost. However, someone with highly skewed stats and greatly inflated strength, would probably do insane damage using a Torch with Animal Kung-Foolery.
Essentially, it's just kind of pointless information, and only applicable at very high levels (ie: where you can use the furnace). Cristiona 20:49, 19 October 2012 (PDT)

Appropriate Level
I'm curious about how high a level one needs to be to face this villainous V.I.L.L.A.I.N. From other discussion, I'd guess those reporting success have been levels 70 and over, to be considering the use of a Furnace or Torch. Being a solitary soul, my efforts in assembling the blue lawn darts needed meant cycling through retcons and transmogrifications; this has kept my alts at comparatively low levels. Since more than one alt per League is frowned on, how high does the hero in a one-hero League need to be to realistically take V.I.L.L.A.I.N. on? Please note that I don't mind that the level needed is a high one: it's good to have something new to do once one gets a level in the high decades, but I'm sure others might like to avoid wasting time by taking on this fight too soon. As a guide to the lower-levelled, I'd like to point out the following:
- At around level 7, one can, with preparation, survive just long enough to hit this creature once before being killed. Below this level there is little chance of avoiding being killed outright without a chance to do anything.
- This foe has 8000 HP, and its immunities mean it will take at most 1HP from each type of damage you can inflict.
- While some clever tactics (such as those mentioned above) can increase the number of types of damage and hence the total damage you do each round, you will still, by this reckoning, need to hit the foe thousands of times to kill it.
- According to what is reported above, if the foe is not killed by rollover, it will reset at full health and you will have to start your attack on it from scratch.
Given all this, what level should a solitary hero be to seriously consider taking on this foe? --Richard H-G 05:29, 20 October 2012 (PDT)
- Highest required level I have equipped is 17, and I am definitely killing it without any darts at levels around 40 (now 42), with generous reserves. The key parts are: 1) maxed shock grenade 2) 20 weaken-on-hit 3) enough HP that you can survive your own fumbles and that your in-combat restorers don't waste too many rounds (wasted rounds let it grow stronger, until you can weaken it again with attacks, using point 2) 4) blocking (clockwork owl + nature-vs-nurture + jerk kit). --XKiv 10:42, 20 October 2012 (PDT)
- You'll only do 1 damage if you use no darts. Use enough darts and it won't have much of any resist and you can wail away. EB9's first VIL was dropped using 6 darts across two people, and the higher level player was dishing out some serious damage with Animal Kung-Foolery. Percentage Combat Items
This is more an FYI than anything about percentage-based combat items. It's not the shield that makes them less effective. Multi-round foes (so, this and the List Knights) interact differently with % items. I'm not sure the specifics, but I believe it's something like only a portion of their HP is use to calculate the damage something like TNT will do. Even if you completely destroyed VIL's shields, TNT wouldn't do 6000 damage. Cristiona 22:38, 21 October 2012 (PDT)
