This is your hideout computer lab Computer Lab is Part of your Hideout
This is your hideout computer lab. It's filled with old mice and connectors for electronic devices you're not sure you own any more. There's even enough space for a computer!
- with no computer installed and none in your inventory:
You currently don't have a computer installed. You should check your inventory or, if you happen to be out by the University, check out the electronics shop there.
- with no computer installed and at least one in your inventory:
You can install your [computer (runs X programs)] here.

- with a computer installed:
The (named computer) you have installed here can run X programs at the same time.
You can install your [computer (runs X programs)] here instead.

Decryption
- if Vlad's Decryptonomicon is not selected:
Vlad's Decryptonomicon can only decrypt items while it's running.
- if Vlad's Decryptonomicon is selected and nothing is being decrypted, with nothing that can be decrypted in your inventory:
You don't have any items you can decrypt.
- if Vlad's Decryptonomicon is selected and nothing is being decrypted, with something that can be decrypted in your inventory:
Vlad's Decryptonomicon can decrypt the following items:
[list of items]
Quantity: [Decrypt]
- if Vlad's Decryptonomicon is selected and something is being decrypted, with nothing queued:
You're 0% through decrypting the mangled data plate.
- if Vlad's Decryptonomicon is selected and something is being decrypted, with something queued:
You're 0% through decrypting the <item> and have another X in the queue.
Or you can [Cancel the Queue]
Uninstall
This is the button you click to [uninstall] your computer.
Messages
- when installing a computer:
You install your new computer. Nineteen eighty-two, here we come!
- when swapping out a computer:
You switch out your computer for the new hotness.
- when switching software
You update your computer.
- if your computer does not have the power to run the selected programs:
Your computer doesn't have the power to run that many programs. Needs more... jiggawatts.
- when uninstalling the computer:
You uninstall your computer.
- when starting decryption:
You kick off the decryption.
- when cancelling the queue:
You cancel out the queue and reclaim your items.
History
- Prior to June 19, 2014, the computer lab could hold two computers, either electronic or positronic, each of which could run one program.
- During the LI Inc. Event, heroes could Journey to Inner Cyberspace if they had a submicroscopic submarine equipped.
Decrypting
- After installing a computer and setting the software to Vlad's Decryptonomicon software you could set it to decrypt items that can be decrypted. Doing so would result in an effect and give you a message:
- You plug the <item> into your computer and tell it to start decrypting. The software says it will probably require X minutes of uninterrupted work to finish the decryption. (Added for X minutes.)
- Decrypting heavily, moderately, somewhat or slightly encrypted swipe card took 45 minutes on an electronic computer and 30 minutes on a positronic computer. You got either Computer 1: Decrypting Swipe Card or Computer 2: Decrypting Swipe Card, depending on the computer used.
- Decrypting mangled data plate took 45 minutes on an electronic computer and 30 minutes on a positronic computer. You got either Computer 1: Decrypting Data Plate or Computer 2: Decrypting Data Plate, depending on the computer used.
- Decrypting city map, financial spreadsheet, physiology scan, signal processing or statistical analysis code took 20 minutes on an electronic computer and 15 minutes on a positronic computer. The effect you got depended on both the code and on the computer used, though the name depends only on the computer used:
- financial spreadsheet code: Computer 1: decrypting code or Computer 2: decrypting code (resulting in a signal processing code)
- city map code: Computer 1: decrypting code or Computer 2: decrypting code (resulting in a physiology scan code)
- physiology scan code: Computer 1: decrypting code or Computer 2: decrypting code (resulting in a financial spreadsheet code)
- signal processing code: Computer 1: decrypting code or Computer 2: decrypting code (resulting in a statistical analysis code)
- statistical analysis code: Computer 1: decrypting code or Computer 2: decrypting code (resulting in a city map code)
- Trying to decrypt an item while another was being decrypted, or while the software running was incorrect (for example from another window) yielded:
- You can only decrypt an item if the computer is currently running decryption software and isn't busy doing some heavy decrypting at the moment. Either you're not running the right software, or the computer is busy, so it's not gonna work for you right now.
- You could not replace a computer that was decrypting.
